Client: Peace One Day
Product: Promo Video
Brief: Peace One Day are a non profit organisation based in the UK that do some incredible work, Peace One Day’s objective is to institutionalise Peace Day 21 September, making it a day that is self-sustaining, an annual day of global unity, a day of intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known.
Recently they required a promotional video for their upcoming Art Exhibition titled M16, curated again by leading contemporary artist Jake Chapman. The concept is asking artists to use decommissioned M16 assault rifles to produce artwork, thereby continuing the story of taking objects of war and using them in support of peace. The Exhibition is confirmed to take place at the Institute of Contemporary Arts during Frieze week from Monday 13th October to Friday 19th October with an auction taking place at Bonham’s on 28th January 2015. There are some amazing artist taking part in this, including Kate Moss so if you have the time definitely go and check it out.
I helped by filming the intro section with Peace One Day’s head of film, Nick Hine. We filmed the M16 rifle at Peace One Day’s offices in London. I really liked the idea of giving the rifle a really sinister dark and eery feel and so I lit this slightly from the front and then back lit it with a small led and some gels. It’s only a small cog in the machine but I am always really happy to work with people and organisations like this because awareness of Peace Day creates action, and that action saves lives – a child will not be bullied, a woman will not be hit, a gun will not be fired.
